How we used our technical know-how to turn Gatwick’s website into a one-stop information hub for travellers

The Context

Gatwick Airport is one of Europe’s busiest transport hubs. It came to us with a clear set of digital objectives: to improve customer service through the use of interactive tools and social media; to enhance the airport’s competitive position and drive more commercial transactions; and to deliver timely, accurate and relevant information to passengers.

The Strategy

We knew that there was a mass of information readily available that can enhance the Gatwick experience for passengers – the issue was that it was on a multitude of different channels. From flight arrivals to restaurant reviews, traffic alerts to car park reservations, we knew the information was out there – it was integrating it on to one platform that would be the key to our success. Thanks to our EPiServer expertise we were able to build new website features, including booking capabilities for flights, holidays, hotels, parking and car hire – all presented in an intuitive and consistent style – along with an information nexus featuring integrated data such as flight information, road traffic levels and local weather conditions. We've built on that by taking on responsibility for Gatwick Airport's social media channels.

The Results

This immensely complex, detailed project has transformed the way Gatwick Airport operates digitally. Alongside all the extensive enhancements we’ve mentioned, customer feedback has been excellent and the site now generates more than £2m revenue a month, with about 2 million monthly unique visitors. In addition, the site was recognised by the EPiServer platform itself as the pre-eminent build on its architecture in 2013, winning the prestigious EPiServer Site of the Year accolade.
